Constanța 🌊

The oldest city in Romania, between ancient ruins, cliffs and sea.

Old Tomis, founded by the Greeks over 2500 years ago, is the oldest attested city of Romania — here the poet Ovidiu was exiled, whose statue still stands today in the square bearing his name.

The old peninsula gathers landmarks: the Art Nouveau Casino on the cliff, the symbol of the city, recently restored; the Charles I Mosque with its minaret; the Roman Building with Mosaic and the Museum of History.

And to the north starts Mamaia, the most famous resort on the coastline, with wide beaches and holiday life. Constanta is also a city, a port, and a gateway to the sea — with something for every season.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit Constanța? +
Summer for the beach and resort life in Mamaia. But the old town — the casino, the mosque, the museums — is also worth it outside the season, when it is quiet and prices fall.
How much does it take from Budapest to Constanța? +
About 225 km on the A2 (“Sun Highway”), about 2 and a half hours. In summer, on weekends, the road is crowded to the coast — departs early.
Is it worth visiting the casino? +
Yes — it is the symbol of the city and, after restoration, one of the most beautiful buildings on the coastline. Even just the view from the cliff, especially at sunset, is worth the way.
Do I stay in Constanța or in Mamaia? +
For the city, history and authenticity, choose Constanta. For the beach, terraces and resort life, Mamaia. They are glued together so you can combine very easily.
What can I visit nearby? +
The ancient fortress of Histria, the mud lake of Techirghiol and, to the south, the Old Bohemian Vama. All are less than an hour from the city.

"Constanta also gives you thousands of years of history, and the waves of the sea – a city where antiquity and holiday stand shoulder to shoulder."
